Council members include academics, judges and lawyers representing legal education, training and practice. [2] The current Chief Justice of Ghana is the Chief Justice. It also includes the three most senior members of the Supreme Court of Ghana. This includes the Attorney General of Ghana and his candidate. The Council, President, Vice-President and Secretary of the Ghana Bar Association are also part of the Council. [3] The General Legal Council is the body that regulates the legal profession in Ghana. It was created in 1960 by an Act of Parliament, the Legal Profession Act 1960 (Act 32). His task was to oversee legal education and the legal profession in the country. [1] The Board maintains the admission of lawyers to practise. He also registered new members to the Ghana Bar during the first week of October.

It has a disciplinary committee capable of sanctioning and expelling lawyers from the country. [2] The Commission will consider on an interim basis whether, prima facie, evidence of the application, to which counsel must respond. If the Board decides that there is no need for counsel to respond, the motion is discontinued. If the Board determines that a matter requires a response, it will issue instructions for a hearing and cause communications to be served on the applicant and counsel. Once an application has been made and supported by the evidence contained in the affidavit, it is at the Commission`s discretion to request additional information from the applicant before proceeding with the hearing of the application. The lawyer also has the opportunity to present affidavit evidence in response to the applicant. The application shall be made using Form 1 and the applicant`s affidavit set out in Form 2 of Annex IV. There is a code of ethics for the legal professions in Annex III of the Law on Legal Professions. 2011. The Code of Professional Conduct governs the professional practice, etiquette, conduct and discipline of a lawyer.

Section 34 provides that a client or, with the Board`s permission, any other person who claims to have been aggrieved by professional misconduct (including omission) by a lawyer other than a government judicial officer may make an application supported by an affidavit of facts of which he or she complains to the Board: to ask the lawyer to respond to the allegations. Section 35 of the 2011 Law on Lawyers states that all claims against lawyers must be made in writing. It is important that the applicant submit its testimony in the form of an affidavit so that it can be properly submitted to the Commission.
