It should be noted that RBT did not seek ATF approval for FRT-15 prior to the product launch. Although this step is not required by law, many companies voluntarily choose to integrate it into the R&D process. This means that a normal gun owner cannot own a machine gun unless it was manufactured before 1986. As an exception to this law, people who have their own FFL and who are SOTs (even outside their own home) can legally own and even manufacture machine guns manufactured today. As we previously reported, Rare Breed`s FRT-15 trigger was considered completely legal until recently, when the ATF began investigating the triggers and the manufacturer. In my opinion, it is very prudent that you do NOT have a trigger for rare breeds in your possession. If you are considering buying an FRT-15 trigger, I do not think you should buy it until the courts decide whether that trigger is legal or not. When we talk about your freedom, I think you should make a conservative decision when it comes to things that could rob you of your independence. I actually emailed them about it and they said they believed it was legal CA but couldn`t ship here for other reasons. The Trump administration has banned stocks of hump fire by falsely labeling them as machine guns. The humpback sticks allowed the weapon to slide inside the butt, allowing the trigger to be pulled into a motionless finger. This allowed the recoil of the weapon to “knock” inside the butt and produce a rapid shot. In plain language, this means that if more than one bullet is fired from a firearm for each individual function of a trigger, that weapon is a machine gun.

The collection of counter-statements written by the company`s legal team shows that RBT was indeed prepared for this litigation long before it occurred. Is it legal under CA standards? Oh damn, no. Without prior knowledge of how the FRT-15 works, a live demonstration of a firearm with a trigger installed would convince most people – novices and gun experts alike – that they have just seen a machine gun in action. A standard 30-round magazine can be emptied in seconds, and the quick reports would look a lot like fully automatic shots. The ATF`s declaration of cessation and destention stated that the agency had investigated the trigger of the FRT-15 and found that it met the definition of a fully automatic machine gun, as described above. However, the letter did not contain details of the audit or additional documentation. What is the rate of fire of a semi-automatic AR-15? Wouldn`t that be as fast as a shooter could pull the trigger? Or should Jerry Miculek fear arrest if he shoots down an AR-15 in California? His finger can pull the trigger faster than I can, so he can clearly increase the rate of fire manually. “We knew we needed legal advice if we wanted to bring this thing to market. And I didn`t just jump on YouTube and collect a bunch of half-baked opinions on a third `gun nodule,`” he added. “My four legal experts have testified on behalf of the [Department of Justice] and the ATF in countless cases. I didn`t intend to do anything illegal.

Did you know that some people wouldn`t like what I was doing? Sure. But there are haters everywhere. It doesn`t matter what you do. Someone there won`t like that. Is it strictly legal according to ATF standards? . Maybe. But you beg and shout to be a test case. A case where I would be surprised if you were close to victory. With a semi-automatic weapon, a single shot is fired at each trigger. The shooter must manually release the trigger and let it move to its reset point under light spring pressure before the trigger can be pulled again. It is important for me to note that I am a lawyer who specializes in exactly these types of topics (gun law, especially firearms and component law provisions).

However, I am neither Rare Breed`s lawyer nor your lawyer. Therefore, this is NOT legal advice. In this article, we will explore the legal issues surrounding the FRT, the ATF`s determination, and whether I think it is correct. Note that pulling a trigger and triggering a trigger were considered two different functions of a trigger, and therefore “binary triggers” that fire both when fired and triggered are not considered machine guns. Excellent article Ryan, and very informative. I just purchased a hard reset trigger. The WO trigger, to be exact. The ability of the ATF to change the definition at any time is worrisome. And I think they`re likely to get away with it, which makes gun owners and anyone who wants to become gun owners more timid. This is essentially alarmist.

If they win the case, anyone who bought one would be a criminal by “definition” if they didn`t destroy or put that trigger back on. This question was asked here a week or two ago, and I will say the same thing. All it takes for a comic book lawyer to tell you why it probably won`t be legal for long. The unique FRT-15 (Forced Reset Trigger) increases the speed at which a shooter can fire a semi-automatic firearm. The ATF states that this feature makes it a “machine gun” by definition legal and that the trigger should therefore be severely restricted. I watched when I saw the video and also read paragraph (2) to mean that it would be illegal in California, but of course IANAL As the name suggests, the trigger of the FRT-15 resets very quickly after a shot when the group of bolt carriers returns to the front, whether the trigger is released or not. This allows for extremely fast tracking shots, but the trigger must always be pulled every time a bullet is fired. The ATF made the revelation Thursday in an open letter to state-licensed arms dealers. In the letter, the office says some of these triggers are “firearms” and “machine guns” under the Gun Control Act. These are triggers manufactured by Rare Breed Triggers in Florida.

“For anyone currently in possession of any of these triggers, I have discussed the matter with ATF`s legal counsel. Their current position is that these triggers are fully automatic weapons and cannot be possessed without the correct credentials. Their recommendation is to completely destroy the trigger so that it is permanently inoperative. I recommend that you take a picture of the destroyed shutter release and keep it. The ATF also encourages people to convert it to ATF as another option. I am advised that the ATF will likely contact the people who purchased these triggers. Again, I recommend that you take no risks with your freedom.
