As an agency of the State of Texas, the Attorney General`s Office has jurisdiction over disputes involving the University and its staff. The attorney general works with the Attorney General of Texas, a legal counsel engaged in private practice, and other legal counsel for Texas state agencies on matters that may affect the university. The General Counsel oversees all proceedings against or on behalf of the University and assists on behalf of the University. All contracts that use a university-approved model must use the most recent version of that model. All contracts using an earlier version are returned unsigned by the Office of the General Counsel to the originating department. Prior to joining the SFA faculty in 2017, Shrewsbury served as General Counsel and Director of Legal Services for the U.S. Air Force in the United Kingdom and Japan. He also served as General Counsel and Chief of Operations and International Law for the Pacific Air Force in Hawaii; Deputy Advocate General, United States European Command in Germany; Legal Counsel, Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece; Deputy Chief of Staff of the 20th Fighter Wing in South Carolina; and Chief of Military Justice and Tort Law at the Ogden Air Logistics Center in Utah.

From 1993 to 2017, Shrewsbury also worked as an executive trainer and instructor for the U.S. Air Force. His research interests include air and air law, business ethics and international business ethics. The main areas of law in which the Office of the General Counsel operates are: The Ministry of Government has designed the Pre-Law minor as a separate curriculum within the political science major. This minor will help students in pre-law schools develop and master the fundamental skills of legal writing, analysis, and research, as well as gain a better understanding of how law affects politics, social institutions, and ethics in America. John Freeman has more than 35 years of legal, compliance and management experience in U.S. government, private practice and four international energy companies. He has served as General Counsel/Chief Legal Officer for two publicly traded companies, one based in the United States and the other in France. Freeman was also the first global chief ethics and compliance officer for a publicly traded oilfield services company. He teaches corporate communication and business ethics and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law. The Business Law specialization combines the core fundamentals of the SFA`s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with an in-depth focus on laws and regulations. Students who choose this major complete 21 hours of coursework in business law, economics, finance, and corporate communication. The Office of the General Counsel provides legal oversight and advice on matters related to the University. As in-house counsel for SFA, the General Counsel acts as a problem solver, legal troubleshooter and advisor to the University, its Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, and others acting on behalf of the SFA. The General Counsel does not act as a personal lawyer and acts only on behalf of the University. The office reports directly to the Council of Regents. Dr. S. Ann Wilson is Professor Emeritus of Corporate Communication. She has served as President of the Institute for Business Communication and Law and Associate Dean of Student Services at Rusche University of Applied Sciences. Wilson returned to the classroom to teach corporate communications and leadership courses before retiring in August 2019.

As an active researcher and teacher, she has received teaching awards, including the department`s Excellence in Teaching Award. She has been a member of numerous professional associations and has served as President of the Federation of Business Disciplines. She holds a MED from Southern Arkansas University and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Debbie DuFrene holds a PhD from the University of Houston and a B.A. and M.A. from Nicholls State University.

Previously, she was Department Head and Associate Dean of the Rusche College of Business. DuFrene is a member of the Association for Business Communication and has held various leadership positions at the national and regional levels. She is published in scientific journals and is the author of several editions of several textbooks on corporate communication. She is currently editor-in-chief of the Corporate Communications book collection for Business Expert Press. His research interests include organizational communication, learning assessment, and technology-enabled teaching and learning. It is the responsibility of the original department to keep a complete copy of all contracts. Communication with the General Counsel in personal legal matters (including cases against the University) or in non-legal matters is neither privileged nor confidential. The General Counsel may be expressly required to disclose such communications to other officials of the university if they affect the legal interests of the university.

The Office of the General Counsel strives to advance the mission of the SFA by providing legal advice and guidance to the Board of Governors, the President, officers and other senior officials on a wide range of legislation, regulations and policies affecting the University. Our office is proud to serve as a link between the University and its affiliated and affiliated institutions on legal and policy matters. Students interested in earning a degree with a concentration in Business Law must meet the basic requirements for the BBA degree in General Affairs, as well as: Dr. Marice Kelly Jackson is an Assistant Professor of Corporate Communication and has been teaching at universities since 2005. His leadership experience includes working as a team leader, registrar and head of the business department. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, an MBA from Brenau University, and a bachelor`s degree in journalism from Georgia State University. His research interests include corporate communications, management and organizational development. Communication with the General Counsel is protected by solicitor`s privilege and is therefore confidential when it is made for the purpose of providing legal advice on behalf of the University. Such communications may only be disclosed to other university officials on a need-to-know basis. Our office also works closely with all institutions and departments of higher education to ensure effective and efficient administrative services related to contract management and the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
